In March 2022, the North American Hockey League (NAHL) announced that the Minnesota Magicians agreed to sell their NAHL membership to Copper Island Hockey Club L.L.C. The team was relocated to Eagle River, Wisconsin and rebranded as the Wisconsin Windigo. The "windigo" is a mythical creature that is said to haunt the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada, especially during winter blizzards. The Windigo has many different depictions, but it is generally referred to as a giant antlered reindeer-like beast, becoming the inspiration for the mascot depicted in the team's logo. In 2025, the team relocated to Brookfield, Wisconsin.
